Those who work in the public sector—the protected class of Canadians—have suffered few financial effects from the health crisis, while many small business owners have lost everything. As former Liberal MP Dan McTeague told the Western Standard, Canada is now a country of “have-nots versus haves, and … public servants versus those who work in the private sector.”

No longer can we afford to have government workers and politicians retire early on incomes funded by taxpayers—pensions that workers outside the protected class can only dream about. Canadians go off to work while retired government workers go off to the golf course or to winter condos in sunny southern locations, with the rest of us supporting them.

It is time for the public sector to join the rest of us and work toward making sacrifices for the benefit of all.
